Kavital Sevashram Convent And Children’s Home Golden Jubilee Held

KAVITAL, APR.10: The Golden Jubilee celebration of Sevashram Convent and Children’s Home was held on 10 April 2021 at Kavithal,Raichur district.

Sisters of Charity of Sts. Bartholomea and Vincenza Gerosa begun their mission at Kavithal which is a rural area in Lingasugur Taluk of Raichur district 50 years ago.

The new foundation of Sevashram Convent was inaugurated on 2nd July 1970 by Bishop Ambrose Yeddanapalli OFM, the Second Bishop of Bellary in the presence of the Rev. Mother Battistina Taverini, Mother Provincial of Secundrabad.

The pioneers Sr. Concepta, Superior and Srs. Florence and Bambina have set Sevsharam into action.

Their collaboration with pioneers of Kavithal Mission Rev. Fr. Owen Mc Laughlin, OFM and Fr. Michael Halliday OFM in evangelization, medical and social relief works were commendable.

The Sisters have reached out to thousands of children and their families through the Children’s home, a Girihini Training Center (Home Science Training) for grownup girls and young women and through a small dispensary they served the all the people irrespective of caste, creed and social status in Kavital area.

“Empowering rural girls with skills and enabling them to be employable will contribute immensely for nation building", declared Bishop Henry D'Souza here at Sevshram, Kavita at the felicitation program which followed the Eucharistic celebration.

As a tribute to the past golden years of dedicated service of the Sisters of Charity in Kavithal, Bishop Henry, Bishop of Bellary affirmed that Sisters have inculcated in the children here with values such as hard work, sincerity and self esteem in order to make them agents of social transformation.

Sr. Rosy Cutinha, the Provincial of Dharwad Province and her team was present at the celebration. She presided over the felicitation function.

Many priests, Religious nuns and numbers nuns from Sisters of Charity from the neighborhood communities were present at the occasion.

Sr. Mary K. present superior of the community thanked everyone present.

The children from Sevashram presented brief audio visual program depicted 50 years of service of love to the local community.

The former superiors of Sevashram were honoured at the occasion.

Due to present pandemic situation and Government restrictions the participation of the public was largely restricted.
