A brief history of the parish
The earliest documents in the diocesan archives state that a piece of land was given in 1898 during Rev.Fr. Toranghi MHM,by Hutti Gold Mines Company for worship purposes in the company land, as many officers of that time were Catholics. There were also few Catholics in Hire Naganoor which is 3 miles from Hutti before Franciscans took over the Bellary Mission. In 1941, Rev. Fr. Michael Halliday ofm was appointed as the first resident priest at Naganur attended to the spiritual needs of Catholics at Hutti and Gudadanal. From A.D. 1942 to 1949, Fr. Bonaventure Davis ofm,the parish priest of Mudgal served Hutti. Frs. Xavier Puthamparampil, Anthony Puthenkulam and Augustine Kandathil served Hutti fromHire Naganur until 1951.

By then, the Hutti Gold Mines Company expanded and many Catholic families from different corners settled at Hutti. Fr. Sylvester McGoldrick ofm, the parish priest of Mudgal noticed the needs of Catholics that their children were without any school except the one run by a private individual. The Diocese purchased 3 acres and 7 guntas land on 5February 1959, for the church and other pastoral acivities outside of the Gold Mines area, near a stream (Nala) that was dividing the Gold company land and Hutti village. Fr. Sylvester McGoldrick began to build a small school and a presbyteryin 1959. Fr. Joachim Tinenny ofm, residing at Mudgal, assisted him.Fr. Fidelis Magee ofm was appointed the first parish priest on 1June 1960. During the time of Fr. Fidelis ofm, the school and the presbytery were given to the Sisters of St. Ann of Providence, who came to Hutti in 1961 and he stayed in a small office room near the veranda of the school until his transfer. During his time, the present presbytery building construction was started. Fr. Louis Madden ofm,the companion of Fr. Sylvester ofm was appointed the parish priest of Hutti in 1961 and he completed the present presbytery of Hutti and the beautiful church. The officers of Hutti Gold Mines Company provided the technical advice and some skilled workers for the speedy completion of these two buildings. On completion, the church was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, at the request of the principal donor Mrs. Dr. P.E. Cameron of Glasgow, Scotland.

On 11 Dec.1985 to mark the silver jubilee of the parish, a beautiful grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes was built during the term of Fr. Sebastian Kulathinal. On 30 Jan. 2011, the golden jubilee was celebrated when Fr. Lourdu Marianna was the parish priest.During his ministry, the Mednapur chapel was built. There is also Pavithra Hrudaya Community Center.
