District Minister Nagendra Launches Diocesan Green Sunday

Ballari District in-charge Minister Sri Nagendra, launched the Bellary Diocesan Green Sunday Campaign by planting saplings in the cathedral premises on July 16.

H’ble Minister for Youth Empowerment, sports and Tribal welfare, Government of Karnataka, was assisted by Mayor Ms Thriveni and Deputy Mayor Ms Janaki in the presence of Bishop Henry D’Souza.

Ballari City Corporation Corporators and Forest Department officials along with others took part in the event.

The Diocese of Bellary in collaboration with United Christian Forum, Ballari unit, parishioners of St. Antony Cathedral, School Students, Staff and volunteers initiated the tree plantation drive.

The guests planted about 200 saplings both in the cathedral church and Bishop’s House premises on the day with the help of local leaders and seminarians.

“Caring for the mother earth and protecting the environment is essential for the survival of humanity” reminded Bishop Henry D’Souza, at the occasion.

Bishop encouraged and urged everyone to plant saplings in the house compounds and institutions/ church campus and care for them.

Minister Nagendra lauded the initiative and “Through the planting of the saplings, the younger generation are enabled to understand the awesome responsibility to nurture nature” said the minister.
