Archbishop Machado blesses 6 houses for poor in Bellary

BALLARI, NOV 18 (Sagaya): Newly built 6 houses for the rain affected families in Ballari diocese were blessed and opened by Archbishop Peter Machado, Archbishop of Bangalore on 16 November, 2020.

Bishop Henry D'Souza Bishop of Bellary thanked the donors for helping the poor to rebuild their houses and also their lives. These houses were built with the financial assistance given by the Archdiocese of Bangalore, Catholic Club, Resurrection Church, Ascension Church and Jesuits of Karnataka routed through Caritas India and the Bellary Diocesan Development Society. The houses of the six families were badly affected by heavy rains in 2019.

The Diocese along with the BDDS functionaries plunged into action immediately and appealed for help. Caritas India and Archdiocese of Bangalore with its various institutions extended their helping hand immediately.

A felicitation program was organized to honour the donors for their assistance on November 16 at Bishop's House, Bellary. Archbishop Macchado handed over the keys of the newly built house of Mallamma of Yaragunta village, Shaktinagar at the occasion. Mr. Robert D'Souza, Karnataka State Officer, Caritas India, Fr. Joseph Naveen Kumar, Director, BMSSS, Bangalore, Fr. Balraj of Resurrection Church, Bangalore, Fr. Cyril Victor of the Pastoral Center, Bangalore, Mr. Santhosh Sequeira of Catholic Club, Bangalore, representing the donors were felicitated on the occasion by Bishop Henry D’Souza. Bellary city priests and religious men and women were present at the occasion.

Archbishop urged all people of goodwill to "stretch out their hands" to the poor and the needy. At that occasion Bishop Henry solicited financial assistance for the diocesan housing project which is to be launched shortly in various places in Bellary, Raichur and Koppal districts of Bellary Diocese.

Bishop Henry D'Souza lauded the work of Fr. Yagappa, Director of BDDS and his team for excellently facilitating the construction work of the six houses. The Vicar General and President of Bellary Diocesan Development Society thanked all those assisted for the success of this event, particularly the donors and organizers Fr. Yagappa, Director, BDDS and team.
