Two new priests ordained for Bellary Diocese

Two new priests were conferred the order of priesthood on May 21 at St Alphonsa School premises, Shakthinagar, Raichur District.

Kennedy Fernandez, son of John Fernandez and Mary Fernandez from Shakthinagar parish, and Yuvraj (Veeresh), son of Francis and Sharadamma from Bailmerchad from Manvi parish are the new priests.

Bishop Henry D’ Souza, Bishop of Bellary ordained the two Deacons, who had their formation at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore.

Fr O Vincent, Vicar General, all the deans of the respective deanery along with several priests and religious witnessed the event.

Bishop Henry addressing the ordained priests said, “May the Holy Spirit fill your heart with wisdom, courage and grace as you embark on this sacred ministry. Through your words and actions, may you inspire faith, bring comfort to the suffering and be beacons of hope to all those you encounter.”

Bishop D’Souza reminded that priesthood is a call to serve and to empower people. It is a challenging ministry. But with God’s unfailing help, everything is possible. As pastors, every priest needs to models to people by “understanding what he is doing, imitate what he celebrates and confirm his life to the mystery of Lord’s Cross!”

Bishop D’Souza also thanked the parents of both the new priests for giving their sons to the church and the diocese.

Following the Eucharistic celebration the newly ordained priests were felicitated. Fr Gnanapragasam T. introduced and extended the words of felicitation to the newly ordained, in response Fr Kennedy Fernandez, one of the newly ordained priestsproposed the vote of thanks expressing gratitude for the support and blessing received.

The ceremony concluded with the meal arranged for the large gathering.
