“Women Mould the Society”: Bishop Henry D’Souza

“Women are the great moulders of the society”, said Bishop Henry D’Souza of Bellary Diocese, while addressing over 250 women, gathered at St. Antony’s Community Center, Bellary for International Women’s Day celebration held on March 14. “Without women our society – educational institutions, healthcare centres and above all families will collapse. It is our dedicated women who through their love and service, turn houses into homes, groups in to communities and institutions into cradles of human progress.”

The Bishop D’Souza encouraged the women to be aware of their noble call by God to espouse a broad vision of life, think positively and act with nobility. “Women can and should become promoters of change at home, in the society, Church, country and in the world at large”, added Bishop.

Mrs. Vijaya Lakshmi, Chairperson, Department of Women and Child Welfare, Ballari was the chief guest. She appealed all the women gathered to guide their children particularly adolescents in the family to utilize the modern electronic equipments such as mobiles, tabs, computers etc. and cautioned mothers and guardians doubly watchful that their children don’t become prey to the cyber bullying.

Ms. Kalavathy, member, District Women and Child Commission spoke on the problems women face at home and society. She appealed to resolve the problems amicably in the family itself. “Resorting to law and police would invite unpleasant situations in the families”, she said.

Fr. Cyril Lasrado, Diocesan Estate Manager and Parish Priest of Cantonment, spoke on the spiritual aspect of motherhood. Sr. Jancy FS, Chairperson, Bellary Diocesan Women Commission thanked everyone present.

Four women achievers Ms. Sosai Mary(90), teacher from Cowl Bazaar, Ms.Fatima M.S. Director, MMMP Dhama, Ballari, Ms. Fatima Rita, from cantonment Parish & Ms.Louisa Mary from Bandihatti were felicitated at the occasion.

Teachers from St. Mary’s School, Ballari and youth from Bandihatti parish and St. Antony’s Cathedral choir presented cultural items at the felicitation progrmme.

Ms. Mary Gertrude, Secretary, Diocesan Women Commission organized the entire event in coordination with Fr. Ivan Pinto, Fr. O. Vincent and Fr. Cyril Lasrado.

The program concluded with a fraternal meal.
