Bellary Diocesan Pastoral Council Members Reflected on "Human Dignity" in the light of Magnifica Humanitas"

Bellary Diocese organized a session for Diocesan Pastoral Council members on September 14 th , 2026 at the Bishop’s House, Bellary. 47 members representing all the six deaneries , Secretaries of various diocesan Commissions and Diocesan Pastoral Council Officials participated in the day’s program.

Rev.Fr. Alphonse George, Co-Ordinator of Diocesan Synodal team was the resource person of the day. He enlightened the participants through an insightful reflection drawing from Pope Leo XIV’s first Encyclical “Magnifica Humanitas”. The opportunities and challenges present in today’s rapidly changing world in Communication, Education, Health, Pastoral activities and Evangelization.

He said “we are invited in the light of the Gospel to safeguard human dignity and the Common good, while serving in an effective and responsible way using modern technologies to proclaim the Good News”.

In his inaugural message, being the feast of Exaltation of the Cross, Bishop Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary stated “The Cross of Christ puts before us a free choice; either to choose to suffer meaningfully by offering it for others or suffer pointlessly by complaining and he exhorted everyone to look at Christ Crucified on the Cross and embrace a life of sacrifice.

The Bishop also reminded the Diocesan Pastoral Council members that DPC is a consultative structure intended to provide leadership by assisting in pastoral activities.

The other resource persons of the day included Rev. Frs. Paul Raj, who presented, diocesan Commissions activities, Fr Maxim Dias, Secretary of Bellary Diocesan Board of Education, presented the report of the activities for one year and briefed about the restructuring the Schools run by BDBE. Fr. Jai Prakash briefed about the programs organized for the Transgenders to uplift them, which included a Housing Scheme for them . It is to be noted that one of the transgender in Ballari area already holds a PhD in Kannada and some of them have taken up businesses etc.

Ms. Sheela and Pramila of Diocesan Women Commission, highlighted the participants about the various schemes available for Women from the Government and narrated how 40 women from P K Halli, Kampli of Vijayanagara district had benefitted.

Holding of Diocesan Youth Convention in the month of October/November was also proposed. Mr. Mallappa, Vice President of DPC proposed the Vote of thanks ,while DPC Secretary Ms. Elizabeth Rani read the minutes of the previous meeting. The initiatives of the DPC Vice President and the Secretary regarding were much appreciated.
