A brief history of the parish
In the year 1969, the Government of India rehabilitated repatriates of Indian origin from Burma and Sri Lanka at Rehabilitation Camp No.1, about 12 kms. away from Sindhanur. The refugees were all Tamil speaking of different castes and creed. The Government gave some land and some material for building thatched houses. It was a sub-station of Jawalgera parish until 1990. Fr. Archibald Correa as parish priest of Jawalgera was looking after it. In the year 1990, on 1 July, Bishop Ambrose P. Yeddanapalli made it an independent parish and appointed Fr. Y. S. Peter as the first parish priest(1990-92). On 1 March 1995, Ash Wednesday, the old church caught fire and was burnt into ashes. Later the Diocese purchased new land and built the presbytery while Fr. Pushpa Raj was the parish priest (1994-1997). It was blessed on 9 April 1997 by Bishop Joseph D'Silva. The foundation for the present church was laid by Bishop Joseph D'Silva. The construction of the Church was done while Fr. Mark Coelho was the Parish Priest. Archbishop of Bangalore, Most Rev. Bernard Moras blessed and inaugurated iton 24 May 2007. Construction of the new presbytery is in progress now.
