BELLARY, OCT 21: Bellary city Mayor Ms. Parvathi Indushekar lauded the humanitarian and rural development work done by the church organizations for the neglected sections of the society on Oct. 19 at at a function held to celebrate the golden jubilee of Caritas India and the silver jubilee of Bellary Diocesan Development Society.
Participating in a function held in the evening at the BDDS premises, Mayor Indushekar stressed on the need of bringing the fruits of development to the less privileged and the socially backward communities.
The Mayor gratefully recalled the humanitarian service done by Bharat Ratna Mother Teresa. “The Nobel Laureate’s services to suffering humanity are a source of inspiration to many all over the world”, she added.
In his presidential address Bishop of Bellary Henry D’Souza “thanked and praised God” for the 25 years of uninterrupted services of BDDS through relief works for victims of natural calamities, empowerment of women, mother and child care, protection of environment, and training rural unemployed youth in skills.
Bishop D’Souza stressed on the need of providing better sanitation, housing, community empowerment and protection of environment.
Bishop of Bellary insisted on the need of greater cooperation and networking among the people, NGOs and the Government. “Only concerted and combined effort by different stakeholders can usher in a more humane, deeply spiritual and integrated society”, he added.
Earlier in the morning Caritas India representative Jimmy Mathew and Karnataka Regional Organisation for Social Service (KROSS) Cyril Vas addressed the gathering of over 600 persons on the need of Good Governance and Partnership in Development.
BDDS Director Fr Paulraj presented the highlights of the various programmes run by both Caritas India and BDDS.
Vicar General Fr. Chourappa welcomed and BDDS Coordinator Sr. Mary D’Souza thanked the audience.
