BELLARY, JUNE 22: “Make catholic education life based, value based and skill based,” urged Sister Genevieve CSST, secretary of Karnataka Bishops’ Commission for Education.
Former College Principal and senate member of Bangalore university, Sr. Genevieve was addressing 40 school managers/correspondents and headmistresses at a seminar organized by the Bellary Diocese Board of Education (BDBE) here in Bellary today.
“Catholic education should be solidly founded on the values taught by Jesus Christ. However, it should be creative and skill based, so that the children are able to cope up with the demands of life”, declared the noted educationist.
“Education today has become the responsibility of the community, comprising not only teachers and management, but includes also parents, the society and even students”, she added.
“Today we need a new breed of teachers who continually upgrade themselves as knowledge expands at a rapid pace. We need learned teachers who keep up learning”, affirmed Sr. Genevieve.
Earlier, Bishop of Bellary Henry D’Souza inaugurated the conference. In his message Bishop urged all school managers and principals to make Catholic education “empowering, creativity and leadership oriented, enabling students to be solidly capable of dialoguing, collaborating and cooperating with one and all”.
Secretary of BDBE, Fr. Arokianathan coordinated the programme effectively.
