BELLARY, MAR 13: Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Bishop Thomas D'Souza, till now Bishop of Bagdogra, as Coadjutor Archbishop of Calcutta.
This ecclesiastical provision was made public in Rome on Saturday 12 March 2011, at noon local time, corresponding to 16:30 hours, Indian Standard Time.
Bishop Thomas D'Souza is also appointed as Apostolic Administrator "ad nutum Sanctae Sedis" of the Diocese of Bagdogra.
Most Rev. Thomas D'Souza earlier belonged to the clergy of Darjeeling diocese and was ordained priest on 16 April 1977. He was elected Bishop of Bagdogra on 14 June 1997 and consecrated on 25 January 1998.
