RAICHUR, 22 MAY: Over 200 alumni and present students of Infant Jesus D. Ed. College held a day-long meet on May 22 at Raichur.
Bishop Henry D’Souza inaugurated the well attended meet and encouraged the institution to impart education which is sensitive to the challenges of our times: violence in the society, communal polarization and degradation of environment”.
Speaking on the theme, “Role of teachers in the development of education in Hyderabad Karnataka region”, noted litterateur Ramanna Havale urged to foster creativity, scientific temper and moral values in education”.
Local MLA Sayyad Yasin lauded the contribution made by the Catholic Church towards universalisation and promotion of quality education in the country.
Raichur DIET Principal Siddhalingaswamy in his speech encouraged students “to prepare themselves today to be “well informed and capable teachers in tomorrow”.
Later Bishop D’Souza released the souvenir prepared to mark the occasion.
College Principal Fr Arockiam welcomed the gathering and introduced the programme.
The College started in the academic year 2004-’05, has both English and Kannada medium sections.
Vicar General of Bellary Diocese Fr. Chowrappa, Secretary of BDBE Fr. Arokianathan, Raichur Dean Fr. Vincent Rodrigues, Manager of Infant Jesus School Fr. Thomas Michael, Manager of St. Alphonsa School Shaktinagar Fr. Gnanaprakash were present.
