BELLARY, SEP. 22: “Religious leaders today need to build bridges of mutual trust, not spread mistrust, hatred and violence”, appealed Bishop Henry D’Souza at an inter-religious meet held on the occasion of Ramzan, Sep. 22.
“As the world religious leaders strive to lead people to God, they cannot afford to be isolated islands; rather they need to lead their followers to recognize in the fellowers of other religions their own brothers and sisters, fostering a culture of mutual trust and respect”, Bishop added.
Bishop Henry D’Souza was addressing a large gathering people who met to celebrate Id Milan at the end of month long Ramadan.
“Religions today need to fight the common enemies such as poverty, illiteracy, hunger and disease; and not fight each other”, Bishop added.
“There are great possibililites for all religious leaders to work togther to lessen the suffering of the poor and needy. It can be done only in an atmposphere of mutual trust and respect”, insisted Bishop D’Souza.
“The world religions have added to the spiritual heritage of the world and yet have caused so much of violence and distruction due to mutual mistrust”, regretted Bishop.
Bishop D’Souza extended greetings of peace and joy to the Muslim community in the name of the Catholic community in Bellary.
Karnataka Minister for Health, Sriramulu presided over the function and Sri Kalyanswami of the Veerashaiva Mutt was the Guest of Honour.
